TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday: Close To Greatness

Virginia's Moore to Moore connection.

TheSabre.com message boards routinely provide interesting content and stories for and from fans. This week was no different on the basketball board where a simple thread starter set off 121 replies that turned into a great collection of personal stories.

The first post from poster FirstFan simply started with “Personal Touches With Greatness … Tell your story” with examples in the post being meeting Harlem Globetrotter Curly Neil and Chicago’s Michael Jordan. FirstFan also included connections with George Gelnovatch and Shawn Moore on the list.

The replies that followed are a great read so click the thread and scroll through them here. Below are some select responses with UVA-related connections.

Another Hoo that had a brush with greatness of a different sort came up on the message boards, Twitter, and the VirginiaSports.com blog this week too. D’Brickashaw Ferguson. The former Cavalier and NFL standout was in a trivia question on the football message board by poster EHoo. The reason: he missed only one snap in his NFL career. Playing your whole career while missing one snap is greatness obviously, but 100% would have been incredible. Why did he miss one snap? That was a crazy scenario …

With that in mind, let’s dive into the rest of TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday feature!
