TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday: Basketball Questions

Virginia resumed classes, remotely at first, this week and the ACC continued plans to open fall sports next month as the scheduled football kickoffs inch closer on the calendar. While those steps remain a day-by-day process in these pandemic times, that’s not stopping fans from daydreaming about their favorite college sports teams.

UVA fans, for example, shared some great basketball hypothetical questions this week as they wait for Tony Bennett’s program to return to the floor. The team, like several others at Virginia, did return to Charlottesville and begin workouts already. The first question came from poster 3 U Circle and made it to our weekly podcast as well. The question started this thread – What comes first? Coach Bennett’s 300th win or his 100th loss with the Hoos? He’s currently 277-96. Check out our conversation on the podcast and some selected posts as well.

The other question that brought out some good conversation on the men’s basketball board came from poster chefhoo. This one focused on incoming freshman Jabri Abdur-Rahim – Will Jabri average the most points a a freshman in the Bennett era? The top freshman scorer so far under Bennett was Joe Harris, who tallied 10.4 points per game. Check out some selected responses below.

What else are Hoo fans dreaming about? Possibly the matchup with Virginia Tech on the gridiron. It looked like it would be UVA’s season-opening game already when VMI cancelled. During the week the VT-NC State season opener was postponed due to coronavirus issues at NCSU so it now looks like the Hoos and Hokies will open with each other on Sept. 19.

In other words, fans still have plenty to discuss with their teams. With that in mind, let’s highlight the fans as always in TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday feature!
