Sam Brunelle Debuts Beyond The Arc Show With Guest Kihei Clark

Sam Brunelle, local William Monroe High School and current Virginia women’s basketball standout, launched a new podcast show on Thursday night. Beyond The Arc debuted at Timberwood Tap House in Charlottesville as the first of six planned shows.

Brunelle’s first guest was UVA men’s basketball starting guard Kihei Clark. The show’s focus is to get to know student-athletes off the court in a fun and engaging format. Check out episode one below!

The show is part of a Name-Image-Likeness deal with Hook Sports Marketing in Charlottesville. UVA basketball fans are encouraged to become members of the 4819 Club through Hook as well for other exclusive content possibilities. 1. I have nothing against our student athletes, who in most cases are actually students. And I recognize that NIL and the transfer portal are now a major part of the college scene
My only problem is that it makes me nauseous.

    1. If a couple of college kids doing a podcast for a bit of spending cash is truly bothersome enough to make you nauseous, then you need to get a life.

      1. Yeah, I sold a bunch of T-shirts loosely based on various elements of the “college scene” in the late 1980s, and I feel like UVA and Western Civilization basically survived.

I’m with the OP on the transfer portal, though. Basically, the NCAA said, hey, free agency has been so great for the pros, let’s implement it at the college level too. Bad Idea Jeans.

Also, in the grand scheme of NIL awfulness, a podcast where you get to know the kids a little better, and they get to do something a little different off the court / out of the classroom, seems like a relatively benign thing to me. Especially for someone who wants to get into sports journalism, as Sam apparently does. Good on her.
