There is plenty of uncertainty around college basketball rosters this time of year. While they wait for changes, Virginia fans are excited about a pair of incoming freshmen that signed with the Hoos: Blake Buchanan and Elijah Gertrude.
Buchanan picked UVA over a long list of suitors that included Gonzaga, Iowa, and more. The 6’9″, 215-pound center is a 4-star recruit ranked in the top 100 players in the class of 2023 by the recruiting services. Buchanan was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Idaho.

Gertrude, meanwhile, missed his senior season after tearing his ACL, but he said that “the recovery is going well” in this article from Houston Wilson at Rivals. A top 40 recruit in the 247Sports rankings, Gertrude is another 4-star prospect.
Before his knee injury, Gertrude was one of the fastest rising senior names out there last season. Videos like this are what keep UVA fans excited about his arrival:
