TheSabre.com Fan Friday: Pondering Virginia Basketball Possibilities

The first week of September launched the remainder of the Virginia fall sports teams’ seasons. That point in the calendar also means it is less than 2 months until the start of basketball season!

UVA coach Tony Bennett and the men’s team open with Tarleton State on Monday, Nov. 6 at the John Paul Jones Arena. The women’s team opens its season Wednesday, Nov. 8 with Maryland Eastern Shore (Amaka Agugua-Hamilton’s team does host a free exhibition on Thursday, Nov. 2 too). Tipoff times will be announced at a later date for the games.

With the start of the season inching closer and limited practices already underway, Hoo fans pondered the possibilities ahead some more this week. These videos sparked some of the conversation as did this article from The Cavalier Daily:

Here are a few threads from the message board – jump in and share your thoughts – that grew from there:

While basketball waits to get going, the Virginia football team plays its home opener this weekend. The Hoos host JMU on Saturday at noon. It marks the 500th game in Scott Stadium, the fourth oldest stadium in the ACC. Virginia will honor team members Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D’Sean Perry, who were tragically killed last November, in a pregame ceremony.

The Hoos and the Dukes haven’t played a game since 1983 with UVA leading the all time series 2-1. Oddsmakers made JMU the betting line favorite. What do you think?

  1. Even though UVA’s hoped for victory did not materialize, I consider the one-point loss more good than bad. The weather was a wild card, so not sure to put that into th equation. Our rookie back-up QB showed star power in the making. Mike H. got two scores. Our D was good, but not quite good enough. Our receivers did very well, and we almost won the game except for that last long pass that was slightly out of reach. The season ahead is long, and I still believe the Hoos will have a good, though not great season. That’s a lot to build on for Tony E.
