TheSabre.com Fan Friday: Hoos Get Good News

Join UVA Fans In Greensboro for the Women’s ACC Tournament

It’s been a good week in a lot of ways for Virginia Athletics. Several new partnerships, endorsements, or donations were announced in good news for the Hoos.

For UVA Athletics directly, the big news came out of the Board of Visitors meeting on Thursday. President Jim Ryan announced that the family of the late David and Mary Harrison has made a pair of commitments totaling $55 million to University projects.

The donation is split into two parts. It includes $25 million, which comes from the Harrison Foundation, for the Olympic Sports Center in the Department of Athletics. There is also $30 million, provided by the Harrison Foundation and the Mary Anderson Harrison Foundation, to create a leading-edge translational research program dedicated to the next generation of therapies for Alzheimer’s and related diseases.

Athletes and fans received some good news too.

Cavalier Futures, the official Name, Image, and Likeness Collective for Virginia athletics, announced a partnership with Homefield Apparel for 2024. Homefield specializes in retro-inspired collegiate clothing and hats. Through the partnership, every time CavFutures’ unique discount code, CF24, is used, Homefield will allocate 10% of the sales revenue generated for the collective. On six select days during the year, that number will be 20%, and fans will receive 20% of their orders. That means if fans buy gear, they get a discount and part of their purchase will directly support the collective and therefore UVA athletes.

Finally, an individual athlete announced a key opportunity this week as well. Virginia men’s lacrosse star Connor Shellenberger signed an exclusive apparel partnership with Rhoback, joining Reece Beekman as UVA athletes representing the brand. The two-time Tewaaraton Award Finalist is closing in on the program’s all-time assists record (he needs 12 more to pass Tim Whiteley) and the career points record too (he needs 25 to pass Matt Moore).

  1. I hope the pros appreciate Reece the total package.
I hope Ryan sticks around for another year (likely not), because he’s not yet the total package.
    IMHO.
