One of the few bright spots of the 2006 season was the emergence of Kevin Ogletree as Virginia’s go-to receiver. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, an ACL injury likely will keep Ogletree sidelined in 2007, meaning another young receiver will have to step forward if Virginia hopes to move out of the national cellar in offensive rankings.

In fact, Virginia will need more than one pass-catcher to step up. The Cavaliers also have to replace their No. 2 receiver, Fontel Mines , who graduated and is currently trying to make the Chicago Bears roster as a tight end.

The list of candidates for playing time at wide receiver is a long one. Junior Maurice Covington appears to have taken Ogletree’s spot. Others battling for position on the depth chart include Cary Koch, Staton Jobe , Chris Gorham (a converted cornerback), and Chris Dalton . Freshmen Dontrelle Inman and Jared Green are also pushing the competition in training camp.
