FanWatch: OstHoo, A True Hoo

Glenn Boyce coined the username OstHoo back in 1998 during the VirginiaFootball.com days when he first joined the message board world. At the time, Boyce worked in Eastern Europe and Ost is German for East. He's kept the moniker since, leaving many Sabre-ites to ask exactly what OstHoo means. Now you know, but it could easily stand for true Hoo as well - Boyce fits the bill there too. READ MORE

FanWatch: Big Hoo Since 1962

Ed Wooldridge (Big Hoo) joined the Virginia fan club nearly 45 years ago. In the years since, his life has been closely tied to dear old UVa - he graduated in 1968 and has been an active member of the Virginia Athletics Foundation since 1970. Wooldridge “rarely, if ever” misses a home football game and he travels to several games a year as well. Plus, he's been to almost every bowl game since that first bid to the Peach Bowl in 1984. Simply put: “Big Hoo Since 1962.” READ MORE

FanWatch: HooKat Joined "Good Guys" in 1958

Some of the newer Virginia football fans may not remember the days before George Welsh arrived. Fred Adams (HooKat) does. After all, he's been a football season ticket holder off and on for the past 35 years. That's why ol' GW is still his favorite Cavalier coach - "he breathed life into a lifeless program." Even so, you’ll never guess who Adams pulled for before Virginia. READ MORE

FanWatch: SoCalHoo Remains True to Adopted U

Jack Yager (SoCalHoo) thinks of himself as an adopted son of UVa - he first started following the Hoos about 20 years ago. Those 20 years have seen SoCalHoo work in sports information at Ohio University and Marshall before eventually entering his current line of work as a branding consultant. Along the way, he's lived in L.A., Georgia, and Virginia ("When Kings Dominion was still an idea in a Hanover cornfield," he says.) - soon he'll add North Carolina to the list as well. READ MORE

FanWatch: StLouHoo Builds On UVa Experience

Neil Haner lives in Missouri, works in Illinois, and served in Iraq. All of that came after ROTC at UVa in Charlottesville. Suffice to say, StLouHoo knows his way around. That's what life in the Air Force - and life as a dedicated Hoo fan - has provided for the civil engineer. READ MORE

FanWatch: Bill Stringfellow (Hoo in W. Africa)

Imagine if you couldn't see but a few games a year. Not just in person. What if your beloved Cavaliers were only available to you on television a few times a year? Scary thought, huh? Well that's the real-life experience of one of The Sabre's own, Hoo in W. Africa. Bill Stringfellow only sees a few games a year in Bamako, Africa, but he has remained a tried and true Cavalier fan, following the Wahoos from afar. READ MORE

FanWatch: Myron Ripley (Mayor)

It would be hard to find a more avid Wahoo fan than the "Mayor," Myron Ripley. Raised in Charlottesville, Myron graduated from UVa in 1990 and has been immersed in the Cavalier sports scene ever since. He has worked on the stats crew for a bunch of different teams and is one of the premier statisticians in college lacrosse. He has been the color commentator on UVa women's basketball broadcasts for many years. He's also been a fixture on the TheSabre.com since its inception, providing informed opinions and a voice of reason. In all, he attends about 100 Virginia games per year watching football, men's basketball, women's hoops, baseball, lacrosse and soccer. Now that, my friends, is a fan. READ MORE

FanWatch: Darren Yowell (hoomanchew)

In this third installment of FanWatch, let us introduce you to Darren Yowell. Well, if you read the message boards, you probably already know him as hoomanchew, among the most enthusiastic and passionate posters on the Sabre, not to mention one of the most prolific (over 5,000 posts!). He's also one of the original members of the legendary "Wilk Hall" tailgate. READ MORE

FanWatch: Art Halstead (VBHOO)

On "Meet the Team Day," let's also make it "Meet the Fan Day." The latest subject of FanWatch is Art Halstead, a former UVa baseball player, a longtime member of TheSabre.com and a guy who knows how to enjoy himself on game day. You can find him having a great time in Section 121. (But, shhh, don't tell the ushers.) READ MORE

FanWatch: Bruce Milam (Bruhoo)

Today we're introducing a new feature we hope you'll enjoy. It's called "FanWatch," and the idea is to put the spotlight on the folks who support the Cavaliers and make TheSabre.com such a swell website. Once or twice a month, you'll be able to learn a little more about certain posters and maybe recognize the guy in the next section screaming his head off for the 'Hoos. In this case, that guy is Bruce Milam, aka Bruhoo, a UVa alum, a respected poster, a huge fan and, most importantly, a tailgating legend. READ MORE
