Torchia had 20 receptions for 494 yards and six touchdowns as a junior last season. He projects as a tight end on the next level. At defensive end, he finished with eight sacks on the year.

Queen of Peace assistant coach Gabe Infante: “He made second-team all-state this year AP over Jimmy Dray, who’s going to Stanford. He legitimately measured in at Rivals day at Rutgers [in April 2005] at 6-5 ¼ and at 231. He played last season at 212, so he’s already done a nice job putting on some weight. Joe’s got a lot of upswing to him. On his mom’s side, some of the uncle’s are legitimately seven feet tall. Some played college basketball and some of his relatives have played college football. Joe’s an outstanding athlete. Joe is I think 35th out of 185 students. He had something like 1100 on his PSAT. He’s a National Honor Society kid. He’s just a dynamite kid all the way around.”
